Companies looking to import KC certified products from overseas face complex certification procedures and high costs.
These difficulties lead companies to ponder efficient import strategies and raise questions about how to import products that have already obtained KC certification without undergoing separate certification procedures.
Below, we will explore ways to save costs and time when importing KC certified products.

1. Utilizing KC Certification from Chinese Manufacturers

The most efficient method is to utilize KC certification already obtained by Chinese manufacturers from relevant Korean authorities. In this case, domestic importers can import and sell the products without separate certification procedures.

  • Advantages:
    • Rapid import process: Import time can be shortened by omitting certification procedures.
    • Cost savings: Costs incurred for certification can be saved.
  • Precautions:
    • Verify the Chinese manufacturer's KC certification: Before importing, you must confirm with the manufacturer whether they hold KC certification.
    • Verify the validity and scope of the certificate: The validity period of the certificate and its scope of application for the product must be accurately confirmed.

Larger manufacturers often hold Korean KC certifications. Most of them possess Korean certification for internal batteries, so first, check with the manufacturer whether they have the KC certification.

2. Cooperation from Existing KC Certified Companies

If a domestic importer, not a Chinese manufacturer, has obtained KC certification, product import is possible through the cooperation of that importer. However, this requires active cooperation from the company that obtained the KC certification, and it typically occurs between affiliated companies, headquarters/branches, or companies with the same representative.

  • Required Documents:
    • KC Certification Agency Authorization Agreement: An agreement must be drafted stating that the company ("Party B") which obtained the KC certification authorizes another company ("Party A") to act as an import agent.
    • Product Specification Sheet: Detailed specifications of the imported product must be included in the agreement.
  • Precautions:
    • Cooperation from unrelated companies is practically difficult: The consent of the company holding the certification is essential, and cooperation is unlikely to be achieved.
    • Ideally, it is best to seek assistance from a legal professional when drafting the agreement. However, such an agreement with an entirely unrelated company is unlikely to materialize. Since this method is feasible primarily between companies with a certain established relationship, the agreement format can be determined by both parties.

If cooperation from a KC-certified company is possible, all import customs clearance procedures can be carried out under the name of company "Party A," which does not have KC certification.

To save costs and time when importing KC certified products, one can consider utilizing KC certification from Chinese manufacturers or seeking cooperation from existing KC certified companies.
It is crucial to carefully review the advantages and disadvantages of each method and choose the optimal strategy that suits the company's situation.
Furthermore, since KC certification-related regulations and procedures can be complex and subject to change, seeking professional assistance is a wise choice for safe and efficient import activities.
