Germany, situated at the center of Europe, adheres to the customs regulations of the European Union (EU). In particular, foreign currency declaration standards and duty-free allowances for personal effects are strictly enforced. Please review the following information to ensure a safe and smooth entry.
In accordance with EU regulations, Germany requires the mandatory declaration of cash and cash equivalents exceeding a specific threshold.
Declaration Threshold: When carrying cash, securities, or gems (such as gold) equivalent to 10,000 EUR or more.
Mandatory Declaration: You must voluntarily declare these assets to customs upon arrival.
Important Note: Even if you were not required to declare funds when departing your home country, a declaration obligation arises upon entering Germany if the amount exceeds 10,000 EUR.
Penalties: Failure to declare may result in a fine of up to 1 million EUR.
Duty-free allowances for individual travelers vary depending on the method of entry.
